One of the great features of the mywaterloo Nexus portal is the ability to access, upload and download files from your AHS user space. This allows you to access your files from anywhere, not just in the AHS computing labs.
This document covers the basics of using mywaterloo for:
- Accessing your AHS personal filespace (N: drive)
- Downloading files
- Uploading files
- Creating directories
- Deleting files
- Renaming files
Accessing your AHS User files
- Logon to your mailservices account by inserting the appropriate username and password. Be sure to select the mail server as mailservices (IMAPS)
- Once logged into your mailservices account, on the left side of the page you will see a menu with numerous options. One of the options is File Manager
- Click on the icon to view your AHS Userspace. You wil also need to select your Nexus N:\ Drive, or if you are at home, you may need to select the myFiles (UW FTP Server...) option as below
Once logged into your AHS personal filespace, you can perform many different functions such as:
- Download Files - You can dowload files to your Home PC by clicking the icon to the right of the filename
- Upload Files - You can upload updated files or new files from you Home PC to your AHS personal filespace (8 Mb max)
- Create Directory - Create new folders in your AHS personal filespace
- Deleting - You can manage your user space by deleting unwanted files
- Renaming - Rename files and directories in your filespace
Downloading Files
- Simply clicking on the blue floppy icon (to the right of the desired filename) will prompt you to save the file on your local computer.

- Select the filename and the directory within to save the file and click save. The file now exists on your local PC.

Note: Downloading a file places a copy of the file on your local PC, it does not remove it from your AHS personal filespace.
Uploading Files
** You can only upload files to your filespace that are smaller than 8 Megabytes **
- To upload a file, you must click the browse button and select the file that you wish to upload. Once you have selected the file, it should appear in the text box as follows:
- Click on the "Upload File" button to activate the upload. This may take a little while depending on your internet connection speed (be patient).
- Once complete, a copy of the file now exists on your AHS personal filespace(N: drive), and can be accessed from all Nexus computing labs.
Creating Directories
- Creating directories can be useful when uploading multiple files. You can create a new directory to upload your files so you can easily locate them.
- To create a directory, simply click on the
icon below the upload toolbar.
- You will be prompted to enter a name for your new directory. Enter the name and click OK.
- Your new directory should be listed amongst the other directories in your filespace.
- You can enter your new directory by left-clicking on its name. Once in the new directory, you can follow the uploading files procedure to upload files into the new directory.
Deleting Files
- You will be prompted to delete the file. Clicking OK fully removes the file from your filespace.
Renaming Files
- You can also rename files on your AHS personal filespace through the mywaterloo NEXUS portal. This can be useful if you wish to upload a revised version of a file, but you do not want it to overwrite the pervious version.

To rename a file, simply mark the
to the left of the filename. Select 'Remove' in the drop box at the top.

You will be prompted with a box for the desired filename, then press OK.
