Sarah Gardhouse (BSc '10 Health Studies) was honoured with the Cressy Award from Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing for outstanding contributions through extra-curricular involvement with her development of a mentorship discussion forum.
Meridith Marks (BSc '82, Kinesiology) passed away April 22. She founded the Academy for Innovation in Medical Education in 2006, and is remembered for her passionate commitment to medical education.
Quincy Almeida (PhD '04 Kinesiology), was chosen as the 2012 Early Career Distinguished Scholar by the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity.
Friends inspired by Alumna Alyson Woloshyn's (BA '00 Recreation & Leisure Studies) journey with cancer raise money for a Student Leadership Award in her name.
After 20 years coaching Warrior Men's Basketball, Head Coach Tom Kieswetter (BSc '73 Kinesiology) announces his retirement.
Heather Moyse (BSc '00 Kinesiology) represented Canada in a third sport, competing in the 2012 UCI Track Cycling Pan-American Championships. Heather placed 4th in the 500m Time Trial...her first international cycling race.
Associate Professor Scott Leatherdale (PhD '04 Health Studies and Gerontology) and Alumna Jillian Fleming (Recreation & Leisure Studies '02) were named two of Waterloo Region's 2012 Top 40 Under 40 which celebrates young leaders in the community.
Ron Schlegel (Honourary LLD '05) received the fourth community Barnraiser Award. The award, sponsored by the Waterloo Region Record, recognizes and celebrates community leaders. Ron has also been honoured by Governor General David Johnston as a recipient of a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, which recognizes Canadians who are trying to make Canada a better place.

Tina Roberts (BSc '80 Health Studies), the University's Director of Marketing and Undergrad Recruitment, has published a new cook book called The Two Sisters Cookbook. The book features 20 family-inspired menus from an appetizer, to a main entrée and dessert.
Bob Copeland (BA ’89, MA ’91 Recreation and Leisure Studies) has been honoured with a Taylor Award from the Taylor Hooton Foundation. It is an award for those who assist with the fight against performance enhancing drugs. Bob is only the second person to receive it, the last one being Bud Selig (commissioner of Major League Baseball).
The Canadian Cancer Society has selected its Top 10 Research Stories of 2011, and included a research study by Alum and Associate Professor Scott Leatherdale (PhD '04 Health Studies and Gerontology). The subject of his research was the prevalence of smokeless tobacco among Canada’s youth.
Miriam Klassen (MPH '11) has been Officially Appointed as Medical Officer of Health for Perth County.
Daniel Scott (BA '11 Recreation and Leisure Studies) was one of two successful applicants to become a travel companion to Greg Moore. Greg has been a quadriplegic since age 18 and had a dream of a road trip across America. Read about their road trip thus far.
Kim Rau (BSc '86 Kinesiology) has been recognized by Canadian Interuniversity Sport as part of their 50th anniversary success stories series.
The Board of Directors at Mosaic Counselling and Family Services announces the appointment of Susanne Gillespie (MA '92 Gerontology) as Executive Director, effective October 3, 2011.
After 16 years as Mississauga's Director of Recreation and Parks, John Lohuis (BA '76 Recreation and Business) has been named the recipient of the 2011 President's Award from the Mississauga Sports Council.
Lifesaving/Sauvetage Canada named Jordan Andersen (BSc '10 Kinesiology) to Canada's Development Team for the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships held in South Africa, Fall 2011.
Paul Marchildon (BA '87 Recreation and Business) was recently inducted into the Meeting and Incentive Travel Industry Hall of Fame in the Industry Innovator category.
Heather Moyse (BSc '00 Kinesiology), who won Canada's first ever women's bobsleigh gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympic games, has won the Female Athlete of the Year at the 2010 Ontario Sports Award gala.
This year, Heather and her teammate Kaillie Humphries finished 3rd at the 2011 Bobsled World Championships - Canada's best-ever finish in the women's event. Heather Moyse - October 2011 Spotlight on CBC
The Canadian Cancer Society has selected its Top 10 Research Stories of 2010. A research study at the BC Cancer Agency, on which alumna Nicole Bradley (BSc '06 Health Studies) is first author, was selected. For more information, please visit the Canadian Cancer Society (see item 9).
