Darmstadtium: For the design of this tile we researched the properties of the element darmstadtium (DS) after which we discussed a way to represent it graphically. We found Ds is a transition metal, solid, bright and a synthetic element that decays rapidly as it has a half-life in the order of microseconds. This made us compare the element with a shooting star, a small piece of rock or dust from space that heats up and shines as it enters the earth’s atmosphere. As with the other transuranic elements, Ds may be a valuable element when mankind is able to cross our galaxy.
