International Exchange

Welcome

The Faculty of Engineering Exchange Office is devoted to fostering exchange opportunities around the world for University of Waterloo Engineering students and to welcoming exchange students from our international exchange partner institutions. Students can participate in international exchanges for one or more terms. They have the opportunity to:

  • participate in learning at other first-class institutions
  • become familiar with the cultures of other countries, not merely by short term visits, but through living there
  • expand their technical and cultural knowledge and gain a truly global perspective
  • travel to see and enjoy the culture of these foreign lands
  • improve their linguistic skills in at least one foreign language
  • generally become more-complete citizens of the world

The entire engineering undergraduate student body benefits from the presence of international exchange students who share their own cultures and customs with the students who are unable to take advantage of the international experience opportunities.

Engineering students should be provided with opportunities to develop their competencies in at least one language and culture other than their own at a level appropriate for engineering practice. This objective may be achieved by a combination of formal studies and work in Canada and abroad.
