Adel Sedra receives Ontario's highest honour

invested in the Order of Ontario by the Honourable David Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at a ceremony held January 23 at Queen's Park. Sedra was recognized for his "seminal work which has resulted in major developments in fields ranging from medical technology to wireless communications."

An electrical engineering professor as well as a leader in university administration, Sedra (left in photo) is a specialist in microelectronics. His research focuses on applications in communication and instrumentation systems, including theory and design of circuits.

Sedra has co-authored three textbooks, including Microelectronic Circuits, which is published in 10 languages, has over one million copies in print, and is one of the most widely used textbooks on the subject throughout the world. His many honours include the naming of the Waterloo Engineering student design centre to the Sedra Student Design Centre.

Sedra was one of 25 recipients  of Ontario's highest honour chosen for their contributions to the arts, law, science, medicine, history, politics, and philanthropy. Others recognized included world renowned film director David Cronenberg, hockey legend Paul Henderson, and pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. James Rutka.
