The Spring Writing Clinic is full. The registration for the Fall Writing Clinic will take place on Monday, August 27.
The office opens at 8:30 a.m. Students should bring their Watcard and Fall 2012 final schedule.
The Writing Clinic is an excellent program for students who did not pass the English Language Proficiency Examination (ELPE).
- Undergraduate students from faculties who require 60 to pass the ELPE (Applied Health Sciences(AHS), Engineering, Math, Science, and Software Engineering) must score 55 on the ELPE to be eligible for the Writing Clinic. Students who score below 55 are advised to take a credit course.
- Undergraduate students from faculties who require 65 to pass the ELPE (Arts, Computing and Financial Management(CFM), Engineering-Architecture, and Environment) must score 60 on the ELPE to be eligible for the Writing Clinic. Students who score below 60 are advised to take a credit course.
- Students who pass the ELPE are not eligible for the Writing Clinic, but options for enhancing writing skills are available on our web site: Writing Plus.
- Various hours are available in the Writing Clinic, including daytime and late afternoon.
- Students in the on-campus Writing Clinic attend tutorial sessions for two hours each week. Students in the internet Writing Clinic work at home.
- All students (both on-campus and internet) must purchase a textbook. Information about the textbook is given at the time of registration. If a student has not purchased the textbook by the end of the second week of the clinic, the student will not be permitted to continue in the program.
- The staff in the Writing Clinic tries to accommodate student schedules by finding two hours that are convenient for the student.
- If a student completes the program (3 writing assignments) and passes the final assignment, he/she will be given the ELPE credit.
- Please note that students are limited to 2 terms in the Writing Clinic.
Special enrolment for students who do not meet the Writing Clinic criteria
- If students can show tangible evidence that they have worked on enhancing their English skills, then a special permission for enrolment may apply.
- Tangible evidence may include reading and writing in a journal on a daily basis or enrolment in a writing course etc.
- For further information regarding these special circumstances, please contact the Managing Director, Ann Barrett.
Location
The Writing Clinic is located in South Campus Hall on the second floor.
Attendance policy
Because of the extended waiting list for tutorial services and professional respect we offer to both students and staff, students are asked to attend every tutorial session. If students miss two or more sessions, those students are withdrawn from further tutorial services. Students may review this policy with their tutors.
