International opportunities

Waterloo has no borders

At the Faculty of Environment, the world is your classroom. You can work or study abroad through:

  • Co-op - Work anywhere in the world. Christina Miceli, a Geography and Environmental Management student, had a summer job in New Zealand.
  • Exchanges - Earn credit overseas in locations like Australia, England, France, and South America, like Angela, pictured above, did.
  • Courses - Explore the world and study at the same time. As an environment student, you'll get your hands dirty in field trips and labs that may take you around the world.

Courses with international focus

The Knowledge Integration Museum Course Field Trip - Travel to a major museum city, such as Amsterdam, Berlin, or Copenhagen, and study museum exhibits, audiences, and curatorial practices on-site.

Oxford-Brookes - Fly to England and immerse yourself in the theory and practice of British planning.

Independent Study of Selected Topics - Choose a topic to study and travel internationally to explore it.

Students in Environment and Resource Studies, Geography and Environmental Management, and Planning can study in Australia at:

  • Griffith University
  • Deakin University
  • Murdoch University
  • Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology

International Co-op work terms

While most co-op work terms are in Canada, you can arrange to spend your co-op work term outside of Canada.

Christina, a fourth-year Geography student, spent a co-op work term in Nairobi, Kenya, where she volunteered with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Division of Policy Development and Law.

Aliza, an Environment and Business student, spent 11 weeks in Tajikistan during the summer teaching English to students and to local teachers.
