elizabeth thompsonThought leaders and stakeholders came together on November 3, 2011 for a one-day symposium with keynote speaker the Hon. Elizabeth Thompson. Thompson, Executive Coordinator for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio + 20) and UN Assistant Secretary-General, addressed a capacity crowd of nearly 300 with her keynote address entitled Sustainable Development: Possibility or Pipe Dream?  This address was a perspective on the progress made towards global sustainability since the 1992 UN Rio Declaration.

Joining Thompson on the panel which followed were Dan Gagnier (Chair, International Institute for Sustainable Development), David McLaughlin (President and CEO, The National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy) and Francis Westley (JW McConnell Chair in Social Innovation, University of Waterloo).
