Transportation and parking
Walk or bike
Students can choose to walk or bike to class. All residences are located within walking distance (approximately 5 - 10 minutes) of the centre of campus. There are lots of exterior bike racks and some residences have secure indoor bike rooms (MH , MKV , REV , V1 ). Bike locks are strongly recommended.
Public transit
Public transportation in the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo is provided by Grand River Transit (GRT). Buses come on campus regularly to provide students with easy access to the local community and the Greyhound bus terminal in Kitchener.
All uWaterloo students receive free unlimited usage on GRT buses in the Kitchener-Waterloo region with a valid WatCard.
Your residence office will have more information about transit options in the area including bus routes, cab companies, Greyhound bus, VIA rail, and transportation to and from the airport.
Parking
If you’re living on campus, a car is not necessary. Everything is within walking distance or easily accessible by public transit. If you to decide to bring a vehicle to campus, you will have to purchase a parking pass. Parking passes are sold by uWaterloo Parking Services, and several options are available to students living in residence. Parking is limited in the areas adjacent to the residences and you may have to park elsewhere on campus.
Applications for residents (except Minota Hagey and Columbia Lake Village residents), may be submitted over the web from the secure ePark system.
All Minota Hagey residents must register in person or by phone (519-888-4567 ext. 3100).
Residents of Columbia Lake Village may either purchase your parking pass online, or visit Parking Services located in the Commissary Building on Ring Road, between Burt Matthews Hall and the General Services Complex.
Students must provide resident documentation to the Parking Services office (located in the General Services Complex), after applying to obtain a parking permit. Residence permits will be held for pick up.
Visitor Parking
Visitor parking is available in several coin entry and "Pay and Display" lots across campus. Visit the Parking Services site to find out which lots are available for visitors.
Short-term parking is available in metered areas immediately outside Village 1 and Mackenzie King Village.
Parking regulations on campus are in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are strictly enforced.
