Town & Gown Intern

Overview

The primary function of the Town & Gown Intern is to complete a comprehensive review of existing Town and Gown models, both inside and outside of Canada. Specifically, the focus of this review is to identify models that illustrate "best practice" with respect to the function, mandate and governance of successful Town and Gown committees. 
 

Qualifications

  • Strong research and writing skills 
  • Previous knowledge of Town & Gown mandates (local, provincial, and/or international)
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Review documentation and research publications from the Town and Gown Association of Ontario, International Town and Gown Associations, in addition to other associations, that highlight best practice
  • Complete a comprehensive audit of Town and Gown models, both inside and outside of Canada, to better understand the variety of existing models
  • Highlight innovative models of Town and Gown committees that demonstrate best practice and innovative structure and functioning
  • Provide a written report that includes summaries of best practices and innovative Town & Gown models, with specific recommendations for the Waterloo Town & Gown committee. Report should include a specific focus on the mission, mandate, functioning, governanance, and overall strategy of the Town & Gown committees identified as best practice
  • Other duties as assigned 

Organizational Status

The role of the Town & Gown Intern serves to benefit Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Waterloo and the City of Waterloo. The Intern will be directly supervised by Ryan King, Coordinator, Off-Campus Living and Neighbourhood Relations, but will have ultimate accountability to the Assistant Provost, Students at University of Waterloo, the Dean of Students at Wilfrid Laurier University and the Manager, Community Relations at the City of Waterloo.
 
The salary for this position will be jointly shared by all three stakeholders.
