Sandy Thorburn received his BMus (Composition, McGill University), Graduate diploma (Film Scoring, University of Southern California), MA (Musicology, University of Toronto) and PhD (Musicology, University of Toronto). Sandy completed his PhD in historical musicology at the University of Toronto in 2006. He has been composer at CBC-Newsworld, and has extensive experience as a composer for film, television, and live theatre. He is resident musical director at the Thousand Islands Playhouse (Gananoque). His primary areas of teaching are in commercial music theatre and broadcast music. He has published on Baroque opera, television musicals, and musical theatre. He is founding editor of the graduate student journal Discourses in Music, organist and choir director at Calvin Presbyterian Church, and a frequent lecturer at the Canadian Opera Company.
