Media are invited to attend a public lecture by Peter Gleick, president and co-founder of The Pacific Institute based in California, hosted by the University of Waterloo’s Water Institute.

Gleick, named by the BBC as a visionary on the environment, will describe the three ages in water, from early use through the industrial revolution to what he considers the ongoing transition to a sustainable water future. He will cover the current challenges posed by climate change, energy, agriculture, and ecosystems and will give his vision of a sustainable future.

Gleick is renowned the world over as a leading expert, innovator, and communicator on water and climate issues. He co-founded and leads the Pacific Institute in Oakland – one of the most innovative, independent non-governmental organizations in the fields of water and economic and environmental justice and sustainability.

Gleick’s work has redefined water from the realm of engineers to the world of social justice, sustainability, human rights, and integrated thinking. He developed the first analysis of climate change impacts on water resources, the earliest comprehensive work on water and conflict, and defined basic human needs for water and the human right to water – work that is used in human rights court cases.
