New student permits

With the success of the faculty/staff hangtag initiative Parking Services is excited to extend this to students.  Students may now register one or more family owned vehicles and transfer the permit amongst those vehicles.  Beginning with the fall term all students registering for parking, regardless of whether they have had parking in the past, will be asked to sign an agreement accepting responsibility for all activity on that hangtag unless otherwise reported lost or stolen to Police and Parking Services.

The following policies will also be adhered to;

  • Parking decals must be hung from the rear view mirror facing outward.
  • Those persons desiring to terminate their parking privileges must do so in person at the Parking Services office. It is a requirement of the Regulations that the permit be surrendered to initiate refund of parking fees. Parking fees will be refunded based on the original method of payment.
  • Parking permits, while they are issued to permit holders, remain the property of the University of Waterloo and must be returned to Parking Services on cancellation of parking privileges or on demand from the Director of Police and Parking Services or his designate.
  • Only one hangtag will be issued to each permit holder, regardless of the number of vehicles registered.
  • Responsibility for the safe custody of the permit rests with the permit holder. Permits lost/stolen are to be reported to Police and Parking Services immediately upon discovery. Until such time as reported any activity on that permit is the responsibility of the permit holder.
  • Permit holders will be required to pay a $10.00 fee for a replacement permit.
  • Should the lost/stolen permit be located on a vehicle on campus, that vehicle will be towed at the owner’s expense and the permit will be confiscated.

Any vehicle parked on the University of Waterloo campus displaying a fraudulent (altered) permit will be fined and their vehicle will be towed. The owner/driver is responsible for paying both the fine and the towing charge. There is no reduction for early payment of the fine.

Different parking passes

  • Permits are not transferable between persons, except immediate family members and recorded carpools.

  • All vehicles displaying a permit must be registered to that permit with Parking Services.

  • Displaying a University of Waterloo permit on a vehicle that is not registered to the permit with Parking Services will result in a fine, possible tow away and suspension of parking privileges for the driver of the vehicle and the owner of the permit.

  • Do not loan your permit to other persons, or display your permit on unregistered vehicles under any circumstances.
