Ottawa-Carleton Pharmacists’ Association (OCPhA) Award
The Ottawa-Carleton Pharmacists’ Association offers two awards valued at $500 each to students who have successfully completed second year in Pharmacy at a Canadian University and who are employed as registered students at a hospital in the Ottawa-Carleton region or community pharmacy in the Ottawa-Carleton region whose preceptors are members with the Association. Preference will be given to students with previous work experience in pharmacy.
Apply to the Education & Bursary Committee of the OCPhA using application form available on OCPhA website. The application deadline is August 1.
Daniel J. Fiedler Memorial Fund Bursary
The Pharmacists' Association of the Niagara Peninsula awards two bursaries valued at $1000 each annually to students attending an accredited school of pharmacy who live or work in the Niagara Region during their break. The bursary was established in memory of the late Daniel J. Fiedler, a well respected pharmacist from the Niagara region. Open to students in any year of study.
An application consists of a covering letter identifying the student plus an essay of approximately 1500 words. This year’s topic is:
The Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) recently submitted a report to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care to review the scope of practice of pharmacy. The proposed changes to the scope of practice would enable pharmacists to prescribe within the defined limitations. Discuss how the ability of the pharmacist to prescribe will impact the profession of pharmacy and interprofessional collaboration.

The UCBeyond Scholarship Program
UCB Pharma Canada offers scholarships to students that are taking university classes at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution. The scholarships are only open to students living with either inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as Crohn's disease or inflammatory rheumatic arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis. UCBeyond Scholarship recipients will be chosen by an independent selection committee of leading physicians, nurses and patient representatives from across the country. Applicants will be evaluated based on a one-page essay demonstrating how they go above and beyond their disease, exhibit perseverance and empower others, as well as two letters of personal recommendation. Six one-time scholarships of up to $5,000 CDN each to people diagnosed with Crohn's disease and six one-time scholarships of up to $5,000 CDN each to people diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
Deadline for applications is mid-July for the January semester.
The Pharmacy Student Bursary (Northern Alberta Development Council)
This award is a return service bursary of $3,500 or $7,000 per year for the full length of the pharmacy program (maximum 4 years). It is an incentive to encourage Alberta pharmacy students to live and work in northern Alberta upon graduation.
This bursary is non-repayable if you agree to live and work in the north for one year in return for each year of bursary support received (see additional return service details below).
You may receive a Pharmacy Student Bursary if you:
- are a resident of Alberta
- are enrolled in a four-year pharmacy degree program leading to a BSc in Pharmacy
- plan to live and work in northern Alberta upon completion of your studies and sign a return service contract. Map of Northern Alberta.
Return service commitment
Eligible applicants sign a return service contract with Alberta Advanced Education and Technology.
The $3,500 option: live and work anywhere in northern Alberta
If you are eligible for this bursary, you will receive $3,500 per year. Upon completion of your program, you agree to work and live anywhere in northern Alberta (one year for each $3,500 bursary).
The $7,000 option: live and work in a specific region or community in northern Alberta
If you are eligible and willing to enter into an agreement with a northern Alberta regional or community sponsor, you will receive $7,000 per year ($3,500 per year from the NADC and another $3,500 per year from the sponsor). Upon completion of your program, you agree to live and work in a region or community selected by the sponsor (one year for each $7,000 bursary).

The NADC Bursary (Northern Alberta Development Council)
The NADC Bursary is a return service bursary of $3,500 per year for a maximum of two years, and is offered to students in their final two years of post-secondary studies. It is meant to encourage students to train for jobs that are in demand in northern Alberta.
The NADC Bursary program provides up to $7,000 over two years, and is non-repayable if you agree to live and work in the north for one year in return for each year of bursary support received. Some careers in high demand now include education, medical and health, engineering and technical fields and social work.
You may receive a NADC Bursary if you:
- are a resident of Alberta
- are enrolled full-time in a post-secondary program
- are within two years of graduation (three to four years for students in medicine, pharmacy and nurse practitioner programs)
- are not in default of a provincial student loan

The McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program
The McKesson Foundation has established the McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program to assist pharmacy students who plan to continue their education. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for study at an accredited School of Pharmacy of the student's choice.
Who is eligible?
The McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program is open to McKesson Canada customers. Independent, chain, banner or hospital pharmacists can nominate their children and grandchildren for the McKesson Scholarship Program, as well as any pharmacy student employed at their pharmacy.
Customers can nominate a maximum of two students per academic year who simply fill out and send in an application. Every applicant must be a student who is currently enrolled in, or has been accepted to, an accredited school of pharmacy. The student must be in his or her 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th year of collegiate study.
Scholarships
The McKesson Foundation awards 50 new $1,000 scholarships each year for one year of full-time study, and each recipient can apply to renew his or her scholarship for an additional three years.
The winning attributes
Scholarship America independently manages our scholarship program. This non-profit student aid service organization selects scholarship winners on the basis of:
- Academic record
- Potential to succeed
- Demonstrated leadership
- Participation in school and community activities
- Honors
- Statement of educational and career goals
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
- A recommendation from the pharmacy school

Scholarship winners will be notified by late December.

The McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program supports 150 future pharmacists each year. This program is part of the McKesson Foundation’s community involvement program. Essex County Pharmacists' Association Award
Candidates for bursary assistance must satisfy the following conditions (Please read carefully):
- Bursary funds are designed to assist those student who have explored all other avenues of financial assistance (e.g. family support, Ontario Student Assistance Program) and still have unmet financial need. It is essential that you complete all four pages of this application and explain in detail any exceptional expenses or circumstances.
- The candidate must be a full-time student in a recognized Faculty of Pharmacy program leading to a B.Sc.Phm., Pharm.D., or equivalent. Full completion and recognition by faculty of all prerequisites will allow the application to be processed.
- The candidate must be a graduate of a secondary school in Essex County.
- For bursaries in the final two years of studies, candidates must agree to return and practice in Essex County for a period of 12 months per award accepted. Failing that, the last two awards must be repaid.
- The candidate must not have received more than three E.C.P.A. awards in the past.
