May 8 2012 Inaugural Stoicheff Memorial Graduate Scholarship awarded to Wilson Brenna

The Canadian Association of Physicists' Educational Trust Fund (CAP-ETF)  and the OSA Foundation (OSAF) are pleased to announce that the inaugural Stoicheff Memorial Graduate scholarship is being awarded to Wilson Brenna from the University of Waterloo who, as as an undergraduate and graduate student, has demonstrated both academic excellence as well as leadership in helping to organize conferences and being on the Executive of committees to benefit his fellow students.

Feb 27 2012 Michel Gingras receives Killam Fellowship Dr. Michel Gingras

The Canada Council for the Arts has awarded a Killam Research Fellowship to the Department's own Michel Gingras, one of seven Canadian researchers whose institutions will receive $70,000 per year over the course of the two-year fellowship.

Feb 14 2012 Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis pledge $21 million to science and mathematics faculties at the University of Waterloo Mike Lazaridis

It was announced in February that Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis will continue to show their generous support of post-secondary education and world-class research with a gift of $21 million to the University of Waterloo’s faculties of science and mathematics.

Half of the $20-million pledge to the Faculty of Science will contribute to funding two senior research chairs in the areas of condensed matter and astrophysics.
