Class notes: June 2009 Alumni updates

Alumni updates
1974
John Henderson is busy! Not only is he counting the number of grandchildren which currently stands at five to go with his three children, but this married alumnus is also counting poker chips with some of his old University of Waterloo buddies! John keeps strong ties with Mitro, Bailey, Crawford and Chute through regular poker games. He invites you to contact him if you'd like to get back in touch!
1975
We received a nice update from Angus Livingston (science) who has returned to Ontario after a recent four- year stint working in South China and before that in North Detroit. His career has seen many changes through the years as he's worked in hospitals in the field of microbiology and infection control, then moved on to the veterinary branch of the Ministry of Agriculture. He then switched to industrial chemistry and specialized in electroplating and became a certified quality engineer. Currently he's married to June who is a long-term member of Lambton College's teaching faculty and has two children. His daughter works in the IT fields and his son lives in London, England and works with Google. Angus also enjoys the finer artistic side of life with hobbies such as sailing, photography and music.
1978
Theodore Ilenchuk (MSc biology) did his post-doctorate at Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans then became the Research Associate Professor at York University. He spent the last 20 years in research and development and executive management in the pharmaceutical and biotech world.
1980
The Chemistry was Right! According to chemistry alumna Jill Doiron (nee Young) when she married Charles Doiron in 1984. They have three children together, Derek (22), Jeffrey (20) and Ashely Elizabeth (12). She ran her first half marathon in August 2008 with a great time of 3 hours 15 minutes and 21 seconds and is a 7 year survivor of breast cancer. Right now... life is good!
1983
After 20 self-proclaimed great years of international management consulting in the US and Asia, Robert Lau (science) has begun perusing other interests including wine, real estate, wind and snow sports in the pacific northwest since 2000.
Sharon & Bonnie say "we have the same interests! Minus the real estate, wind and snow sports.. "
1984
Heidi Eder (biology) officially claims the "alumni-on-the-move" award! After a series of moves that has seen her pack and unpack her belongings from Timmins to Waterloo to London to Montreal to New Jersey to Montreal to Pennsylvania to North Carolina to California then back to North Carolina... she claims she's done. Stamped it... no erasies.
We had a note from Denis Laurin (physics) who let us know that after two years of guest work at the NRC Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics in Victoria, BC he's back working for the Canadian Space Agency.
Terry McCurdy (nee Taracinski) has been married to Chris McCurdy (BSc Chem 84) and have four sons together. Two are in university, a marine biologist at Dalhousie, and a biophysicist at Guelph and one wants to be a Waterloo engineer.
1989
Blake Steels (MSc biology) is starting up a business to produce pleasure crafts which use alternative environmentally benign energy sources. It's in the early stages and he's looking for new people to join his 'think tank'. Send us a note and we'll pass it along if you're interested!
1990
"FREEDOM!!!!!" So screams physics alum David Nahrvar when describing the imminent empty nest he and his wife will share once they move to Lake Tahoe. His son currently goes to SF State and his daughter is about depart for university to become a pharmacist. His seemed a little excited at the thought and we definitely had a good laugh over the update by this System Consultant.
1994
For some... there is no escape! Just ask Clayton Tucker (MSc '94) who has been sucked into the Computer Science Computing Facility (CSCF) here at Unviersity of Waterloo! Clayton claims to have finally obtained his driver's licence and enjoys driving through the heartland of Ontario daily...watching the farmers milk the neighbourhood cows

1995
Michelle Campbell (environmental science & biology) has dropped us a note to let us know she is currently working as a Climate Change Policy Analyst and Negotiator for Canada at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change meetings.
Jusri Nilawati (Msc biology) is working towards her PhD at Bogor University of Agriculture, Indonesia. She is a lecturer at the University of Tadulako, is happily married to Fadly Y. Tantu, and has two daughters.
1999
It's a girl! Congratulations to Karen Mazerolle and her husband of 4 ½ years, Patrick Mazerolle who welcomed their first child, Jennifer Elaine Mazerolle born on October 29, 2008 at Brampton Civic Hospital weight in at 5 pounds, 9 ounces.
Sharon & Bonnie ask "what do you dress a two day old up as for Hallowe'en?"
Michel "Escaravage" O'Hara (physics) dropped us a quick update to let us know that he is now an IP attorney at Lovells in New York.
2000
Natassa Lekic (pre-optometery/pre-health) is currently working as a Pharmacist at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic where she is also pursuing PhD studies in Pharmacology.
2001
It's a new house to go with the new job for Laura Moza (biology) who recently began work at Elmira Poultry as a HACCP Coordinator.
Matthew Philip (science) dropped us a note to let us know he's alive and well. Matthew completed his H.B. Comm in 2003 and his MBA in 2008, both from the University of Windsor.
2002
A great update from Caitlin Cooke (nee Martin) who after completing her Bsc and Msc in Earth Sciences went to Ottawa to work as a Hydrogeologist with Golder Associates Ltd. Caitlin and her husband Jean-Luc welcomed their first child together Josephine Natalie Cooke (featured below with a fabulous hairdo)... arriving a couple weeks early and surprising mom who had not yet left for maternity leave!
Audrey Tan (chemistry) sent in a quick update to let us know that on September 13, 2008, she married Darian Butt at Hauser Hall in Heidelberg Ontario
2003
Kevin Anderson (chemistry & physics) dropped us a note to let us know he completed graduate studies at McGill in 2006 and is currently working in Saskatoon at the Canadian Light Source.
2004
Its love! Biochemistry alumnus Terrance Gole married Bridget Myers who has her BA from Waterloo (07) and her MA from the University of Toronto (08). Congratulations!
2006
Raymond Nassar (physics and chemistry) wants to let us know that he's back in Canada and is a happily married man as of July 5th, 2008! Congratulations!
Sharon and Bonnie say "give it 10 years and we dare you to make the same statment! Um.. no, really, just kidding... all the best!"
2007
We received a short updated from Nichole Narbonne (science) who is now living in Stoney Creek!
2008
Fatema Nahar (science) quickly found work as a Project/Finance Analyst for oil sands for Shell Corporate Headquarters. Fatema says, "the degree from Waterloo with my concentration in CS played a major role in landing the grad position. The overall reputation of UW was a contributory factor as well."
