Class notes: March 2010 Alumni updates

Thanks to all of our alumni for sending in their updates. If you have a life moment to share with your fellow graduates, please let us know and we'd be happy to get the word out!

Alumni updates

1969

Verna (nee Campbell) (science) and her husband David (engineering '72) are both happily retired and enjoying life to the fullest with travelling, visiting with family, and hitting the golf links. Verna is a retired Superintendant of Schools with the Toronto District School Board and Superintendant of Equity and Inner City Schools. David retired from Ontario Hydro.

1982

Congratulations Jack T. Trevors (PhD biology '82) on being made Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (USA). This academy certifies toxicologists who are recognized by their peers for their expertise and sound scientific judgment and ensures the competence and experience of professionals whose work affects public welfare.

1986

Gregory Gardin (applied chemistry) and his wife Karen (BMath '86) are keeping the Waterloo spirit alive and well! Their son Paul is now an engineer at Waterloo while their other son is studying forensic science at the University of Windsor. Gregory is a long standing employee of BASF Canada and currently a Polyurethane Lab Manager.

1988

Steve Playter (chemistry) used our webform to let us know he's now living in the raging metropolis of Oshawa, Ontario.

2002

A special call out from Omar Asfour (biology) who has moved back to Toronto and acknowledges with his hectic life he's lost touch with many friends. He'd love to hear from his former classmates. If you're interest, let Sharon know and she'll help you get back in touch with Omar.

2006

We received a quick update from Christian Gardois to let us know that he is a happy Calgarian, enjoying life out in Alberta since 2007.

We received a nice note from Denise Gosselink (PhD chemistry) who somehow managed to squeak in some time being a busy mother to update us. Denise married Ken Gosselink, manager of projects for Waterloo's own chemistry department. They share two daughters, Marina (4 years) and Chloe (7 months). Since graduation, Denise worked for three years as an assistant professor at McMaster University, teaching classes of Materials and Environmental Science to engineering students and now that her daughters are getting older, Denise is currently looking to reenter the workforce in the Waterloo area.

2007

Lisa McDonald (science) dropped us off a note to let us know she is currently attending Seneca College, enrolled in her first year of the Environmental Technology Program.

Life has been busy for biology alumna Jennifer Ronholm who recently wed Landen Coulas. Jennifer is a graduate student at the University of Ottawa and has received a CIHR grant to go to Japan and study the link between de-acetylation of peptidoglycan in listeria monocyogens and decreased resistance to autolysis.

Congratulations to Pete Watson (physics) who was married in May 2008 to Lorri. They have a baby son, Peter III (or Petey) born in August 2008. Currently Pete is working on his MSc in particle physics at McGill University.
