Science Alumni Gold Medal award

Each year at Convocation, one graduating science student is presented with our Alumni Gold Medal Award. The recipient demonstrates outstanding academic achievement in his/her undergraduate program of study. It has been awarded since 1976. Traditionally, this prestigious award is presented to the graduate by a Science Alumnus as a symbol of the ongoing and vital role of alumni contribution to the university.

Spring Convocation 2007 - Robert Kosztyla

Photo of Robert Kosztyla during graduation ceremonyRobert graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. He had a remarkable overall GPA of 93.14 %! In the past, this exceptional young man has been awarded the Helen Sawyer Hogg Scholarship Award in Astronomy as well as numerous Sir Isaac Newton Awards and the Don E. Brodie Scholarship in Science award.

The gold medal was awarded by Ms. Irene Vassalo, Alumni Council representative and University of Waterloo Alumna.

Spring Convocation 20​06 - Valerie Athaide

Valerie Athaide presented with Gold Medal awardCongratulations to this year's recipient! Valerie graduated with General Science degree with a cumulative average of 94.4%. In addition to this award, Valerie has won numerous others including University of Waterloo's Faculty of Science Upper Year Scholarship (2003-04), Aiming for the Top Scholarship (2002-05) and the University of Waterloo Entrance Scholarship (2002). Currently, Valerie is enrolled in medical school at the University of Western Ontario.

The gold medal was presented by our own Norm Scott, a biology graduate from 1973.

Spring Convocation 2005 - Andrew Allen Cressman

Andrew graduated in Honours Physics Co-op with a cumulative average of 93.83%. In addition to this award, Andrew also received the R. Dagg Memorial Scholarship, the Science Memorial Scholarship (4 years), the SIN award (2 years) and the Xerox Canada Award.

The gold medal was presented by Mr. Barat Mathoo, a Biology graduate from 1972.

Spring Convocation 2004 - Justin John Malecki

Photo of Justin John Malecki Justin graduated in Honours Physics Co-op degree. Justin also received numerous awards including JDS Uniphase Scholarship (4 years), NSERC USRA (3 years), Xerox Canada Award, the SIN award and a "Canada Graduate Scholarship" from NSERC. Justin graduated with a cumulative average of 93.26%.

The gold medal was presented by Mr. Phil Carr, a physics graduate from 1977.
