28th annual Logan Day a great success
Earth and environmental sciences students, staff and faculty gathered on September 16 to celebrate the 28th annual Logan Day, which is organized by the Earth Sciences Graduate Association (ESGA).
Logan Day is held in honour of Sir William Logan, founder of the Geological Survey of Canada.
Sir William Logan is such a big part of the geology field in Canada,” says Pieter Aukes, one of the Logan Day organizers and president of ESGA. “It’s nice to bring everyone together from the earth and environmental sciences department to pay tribute to Logan and the Geological Survey of Canada.
Some Logan Day activities included a barbeque, piezometer toss, hammer throw and soccer. The festivities were brought to a close with an evening social at the Embassy.
Logan Day is a great way to take a break from academics, meet new people and have fun,” Pieter says.
The ESGA and Logan Day are generously supported by a number of sponsors.
We like to keep in contact with our sponsors to keep a good student-industry relationship going,” Pieter says. “We often approach companies where our alumni are working and feature their logos on our promotional materials as a way to get their company name out there.
