Application deadlines

Application forms for scholarships and bursaries are available below:

Application and approval process

Applications will be considered by the Theological Studies department. Nominations will be recommended to the college's Scholarships and Bursaries Committee which will review the recommendation and either confirm or reject it. When the award is confirmed, the committee will advise the recipient of the award.

Scholarships and bursaries

Full-Time Tuition Scholarships

All Canadian students or permanent residents are eligible for a full tuition* scholarship for up to six terms of full-time study. A full-time student is registered for three or more courses in Fall and/or Winter term, or two or more courses in the Spring term.

Required forms: Graduate Award application form and Full-Time Scholarship Agreement form. Application required for each term.

International students may apply for a limited number of full tuition scholarships, but they will be responsible for their own travel and living costs.

*Note: this award is allotted to cover the cost of class tuition fees, however, students will still be responsible to cover any incidental fees incurred for the term.

The Reimer Scholarship in Theological Studies

This scholarship recognizes Jim Reimer's contributions as Professor of Theology (1986-2008) in the Theological Studies program at Conrad Grebel University College.

Award: $5,000 over two years

Criteria:

  1. A new student beginning full time studies in the Master of Theological Studies (MTS) program at Conrad Grebel University College.
  2. Students who have demonstrated academic excellence based on previous undergraduate and graduate studies.
  3. Priority will be given to students whose primary area of research interest is theology, especially research that relates Mennonite theology to the broader traditions of Christian theology.
  4. Priority will be given to students entering the thesis option.
  5. Applicants should describe their current theological interests and expertise, and propose areas of study and research for their MTS studies and the future.

The Stephen Family Theological Studies Entrance Award

Award: $1,500

Criteria:

  1. Students enrolled in their first term of graduate Theological Studies.
  2. Students who have financial need and qualify for Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) funding through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).
  3. Students in good academic standing.

Required forms: proof of OSAP eligibility, Graduate Award application form, and bursary application form.

The Jane Plas Scholarship

This scholarship is to support and promote academic excellence among students in the graduate Theological Studies (TS) program.

Award: $1,000 - $1,500

Criteria:

  1. Students who have demonstrated academic excellence based on cumulative achievement in the Theological Studies program.
  2. Students who have completed at least half of the Theological Studies program requirements at the time of application.
  3. Students who have demonstrated commitment to the quality of the academic and community life in the graduate Theological Studies program.

The Magdalena Coffman Scholarship for MTS Students

This scholarship supports students pursuing graduate studies in the MTS program who demonstrate scholastic ability and financial need.

Graduate Student Support Fund

This fund supports students in the Theological Studies program who demonstrate scholastic ability and financial need.

Jacob H. Janzen Award

Funds are available for financial aid, and are applied against tuition fees. Criteria include demonstrated financial need. Special consideration will be given to students working in the areas of Mennonite faith, history or culture, and to students preparing for Christian ministry.

The Clifford Snyder Memorial Bursary

Annual bursaries from the Clifford Snyder Memorial Fund assist students who are continuing their pastoral and leadership training for service in the Mennonite church, relating primarily, but not exclusively, to Latin America.

Women of Mennonite Church Eastern Canada TS Award

The purpose of this award is to provide direct financial support to Mennonite women registered in graduate Theological Studies at Conrad Grebel University College. Preference will be given to women who are members in an Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC) congregation who show an interest in a church related vocation.

TS Award for MCEC pastors

This award provides full tuition* support for pastors of MCEC churches who are enrolled part-time studies. Other applicants with significant pastoral leadership responsibilities in MCEC congregations may also be considered. Such applicants will need to provide a letter of recommendation from the pastor of their congregation or an MCEC conference leader.

Required forms: Graduate Award application form as well as a letter confirming the pastoral role.

*Note: this award is allotted to cover the cost of class tuition fees, however, students will still be responsible to cover any incidental fees incurred for the term.

Other sources of funding

Mennonite Church Canada Women in Mission Spiritual Growth Assistance Fund

Available to post secondary students who are preparing for service in ministries connected with Mennonite Church Canada. Apply directly. Forms are available in graduate Theological Studies office. Application deadline is May 1.

Dwight Moody Wiebe Endowment Fund Scholarship

Available to Mennonite Central Committee alumni enrolled in an accredited graduate school. Apply directly. Forms are available in graduate Theological Studies office. Application deadline is September 30.

Study Reserve Fund (“Company of 1,000”), Mennonite Church Canada

Established to support the training of pastors for the congregations of Mennonite Church Canada. Apply for the Study Reserve Fund directly.

Other financial aid

The TS Program offers other scholarships, bursaries, or assistantships. Bursaries are distributed according to financial need, usually to assist with academic rather than living expenses. Assistantships involve research, teaching or marking.

Note: students who have outstanding incompletes extending to more than one term will not be eligible for financial aid.

Loans

Students in the MTS program may be eligible to apply for OSAP student loans.
