The word 'integrity' is a broad and often ambiguous term. What does it mean to my organization? What does it mean to me? How do I know if I'm acting with integrity? The Office of Academic Integrity co-facilitates a workshop with Organizational and Human Development titled 'Integrity Matters' which gives participants an opportunity to reflect on these questions.
The University of Waterloo has six core values to guide our actions: honesty, trust, fairness, responsibility, respect, and courage. It's also important to remember that integrity is very personal, and requires personal choice. During the workshop, participants explore which values are most important to them, and reflect on the ways in which participants are, or are not, living out their core values in the different dimensions of their lives. For example, I identified my core values to be empathy, open-mindedness, and kindness. An exploration of my actions in my personal life, however, demonstrated that I wasn't always living out my core values at home. When I left the workshop, I left with not only a heightened sense of what is most important to me, but also an understanding of the ways in which I needed to improve upon living out my core values in all dimensions of my life.
Participants also read challenging work scenarios, and in groups, work through the steps for 'Acting with Integrity'. Conflict is often complex, and as a result can be challenging to respond to. This activity gives participants the tools they need to respond to conflict and challenges with integrity.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
