Student Spotlight: Meet Rachel!

Each week, we'll be doing a Library Ambassador 'Student Spotlight' on the topic of academic integrity. Read on to hear each Library Ambassador discuss integrity in their studies!

Meet Rachel! Rachel is a 2B student in Honours Biochemistry.

Have you ever had a situation in which your academic integrity was tested? What did you do?

I think that most students would agree that it is easy to fall into positions where our academic integrity can be tested; like having a really challenging assignment or forgetting to study for a test. I have definitely fallen victim to leaving studying until the last minute and feeling like there’s no way I can learn the material in time for my upcoming test. When I find myself in this kind of position, I remind myself that this is one grade in one course of many that I will take. If I take the “easy” way out, I could be throwing away my opportunity to continue my studies for the slight chance of doing a little better on one test that probably does not hold much weight on my transcript.

Which resources on campus have you used and why did you find them helpful?

I have used a good variety of resources on campus to help me with producing my best quality work. I have gone to drop-in tutoring sessions and to seminars on how to write strong scientific research papers. I also use the resources in the library as well. It’s great to have an extensive selection of resources that are easily accessible and incredibly helpful.

How are the Library Ambassadors engaging with students on academic integrity?

The Library Ambassadors have partnered with Academic Integrity to help students better understand what the University expects of them and also how they can work toward familiarizing themselves with an honest work ethic that can help them in and outside the classroom.
