SUMMARY:Freedom of Expression and Inclusive Engagement
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Freedom of expression is among the most important\, and the mos
t\ndifficult\, issues that universities have had to deal with. Open\nengag
ement and free expression are at the core of our academic\nmission\, but t
he combination of new technologies and a fractured\npolitical context has
created an environment that can be hard for\nacademic leaders to navigate.
\n\nIn this session\, the co-Chairs of the University’s Taskforce on
 \nFreedom of Expression [https://uwaterloo.ca/freedom-of-expression/]\,\nC
hristine McWebb\, (AVP Faculty\, Planning and Policy) and Scott Kline\n(De
partment of Religious Studies)\, will help academic leaders\nunderstand th
e issues around freedom of expression\, and the  work of\nthe Taskforce.
They will give an overview of the University’s recent\nguidance on freed
 om of expression and institutional neutrality\, and\nlead scenario-based d
iscussions. This session will leave you with a\nbetter understanding of yo
ur role in supporting freedom of expression\,\nand more confident in your
decision making. \n\nCOFFEE AND TEA PROVIDED.
