Information for

Accommodations

The University of Waterloo has a long standing commitment to support the participation and access to university programs, services, and facilities by persons with disabilities. To continue with this commitment and to honor obligations set by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the University will strive to undertake reasonable efforts to provide goods or services in a way that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities.  These pages were developed to provide information relevant to your role at the University of Waterloo.

Disclosure of disability

All students who register with AccessAbility Services must provide recent documentation from a certified, licensed practitioner whose training is commonly accepted for establishing a specific diagnosis.

Documentation is stored securely within the department and held in confidence.  We work with students to develop self-efficacy and to develop strategies regarding disclosure.

Accommodations

It is a student's right to request and receive alternative classroom and examination procedures on the basis of a documented disability.  Individual accommodations, however, should neither impose undue hardship nor jeopardize academic integrity.

Classroom accommodations may include a volunteer note taker, access to materials unavailable on-line for alternate format, captioning or descriptive video for multimedia used in class and use of technology including laptop, portable CCTV or FM System. Students may also require the assistance of a support person in class.

If you have any questions about  a student's request for accommodation, please do not hesitate to contact AccessAbility Services.
