Alumni with KIA at the Home of the Toronto FC

Every event we put together in Alumni Affairs has a ‘first’…first time with a live band, first time with a ‘poutine bar’, it is the ‘firsts’ that make my job fun.

Last week we had our first event ever - on a soccer field.

Wha?

Beauties and the Beast

“Road trip!”

In my mind, these two words are synonymous with a carload of teenagers spending the summer after graduation travelling the open road, heading in whatever direction the wind takes them. But I’m sure I’ve seen this happen in the movies one too many times.

A night with Studio 180

For one night, Studio 180’s production of The Normal Heart at the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre was an event for uWaterloo alumni and students to come together to support a theatre company which got started right here at the university. Not only that, Studio 180 is also celebrating its’ 10th anniversary, so celebrating this milestone with the uWaterloo community was only fitting.

Alumni, Alumnus, Alumnae…Alum ?

Working in Alumni Affairs means that we are all relatively well-versed with the proper usage of what, as it turns out, is a pretty confusing word.  I wanted to write this blog entry to address the proper use of this mysterious noun and at the same time, perhaps save some innocent souls from the scourge of incorrect usage.

First things first, we’ll get the obvious out of the way.

uWaterloo Alumni Chapter events in Asia

From Nov. 2-11th I had the opportunity to travel to Asia with the Director of Alumni Affairs, Jason Coolman, and an amazing team of staff from across campus. We hosted a total of four Alumni events in Asia, with each one being unique to the host city and the alumni in the area!

Getting Personal at Convocation

I must admit that my attempts to be humorous have stalled my progress in writing this blog post. As much as I enjoy witty banter as the next person, it just didn’t seem to fit with the topic of convocation. To be honest, the ceremonial regalia, the academic history, the successes of graduates destined to change the world, and the overall pomp and circumstance of the day all don’t fit with the usual repartee I aim for in my posts. But I digress…

Heading in to convocation

Degree vs. Diploma – what’s the difference?

As the university’s 105th convocation quickly approaches, I feel I must take the time to instill one last piece of knowledge on the grads of 2012. Some of you may know this, but indulge me for a moment.

Reunion 2012 Wrap up

Reunion 2012 happened on Saturday, September 29 and what a success! This year we welcomed over 7000 alumni, staff, faculty, students, and community members on campus for a wide variety of events. I’ll go into more detail but would like to start with some background first.

Get to know our team

Welcome to the Alumni Relations blog!

Now you’re probably wondering why the Office of Alumni Relations would need, or want, to start a blog. Good question.  The answer is simply because on top of all the fabulous events we host around the world, we have a ton of neat things to share with you.

Whether we’re taking you behind the scenes at convocation or Reunion, sharing some fun university trivia, or posting the latest pictures from a networking event, this blog will give us a chance to keep you up-to-date on all things of interest to Waterloo grads.
