As an undergraduate co-op student, working at the University of Waterloo has given me the opportunity to meet students, staff, and faculty. I get to experience different positions that have allowed me to experience the other side of the University most students don’t get to see. But what happens after I graduate?

After graduating this June, everyone keeps telling me “welcome to the real world.” And I’ve been trying to figure out what this so called “real world” is. How is it different? What does it mean? Am I ready for it?

I still remember the wave of panic that washed over me three weeks before the end of my final term at Waterloo. The age-old question “what do you do with an arts degree?” hung over my head, and seemed to be amplified into a terrifying “what do you do with a Sexuality, Marriage and Family Studies degree?” to which I had no answer.

Last week marked the University of Waterloo’s 108^th convocation. Hundreds of graduates crossed the stage to receive their degree, beginning a new chapter in their lives as alumni of the University of Waterloo.  These new graduates are now part of the UWaterloo alumni community which is a family of over 169,000. Welcome to the club our newest alumni!
