Canada Taking on the Hyperloop

Waterloop

The University of Waterloo’s student engineering design team, “Waterloop,” has earned a place as finalists in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Design Competition. The team is now fabricating and will be testing their final prototype pod on a one-mile test track, outside of SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California later this summer.

The Journey to Convocation of a #UWaterlooGrad

Shivana outside of the Davis Center

"Hello everyone, I’m Shivani Tyagi and I recently graduated from the 2016 class of Mechatronics Engineering, and currently I’m sitting in the heart of the university, at the Student Life Center.

Helping to Produce Better Results from Surgical Operations

I am Youssef Helwa, the CEO and co-founder of NERv. I am a University of Waterloo Nanotechnology Engineering graduate with extensive experience in the field of biosensors and microfabrication. NERv is one of the first members of the Velocity Science program. It aims to develop its sensors to one day eliminate the anxiety and worry associated with the occurrence of post-operative complications and the dangers associated with it.

Why UWaterloo allowed me to be Crazy Innovative

Pablo

Since enrolling at the University of Waterloo in 2010, I have had the opportunity to start an engineering design team and two companies. I originally applied for the Nanotechnology Engineering program at the University of Waterloo with the hopes of starting a Nanotechnology based company.

My UWaterloo Journey

As a small town kid from Southwestern Ontario with parents having no high school diploma I was very enthused to be accepted to the well-respected University of Waterloo Engineering Program in 2000. My excitement quickly turned into panic when I scored 40-something percent on the dreaded engineering entry exam.

Those Days in Hagey Hall

As a University of Waterloo Department of English grad (BA ‘08, Literature and Rhetoric; MA ‘10, Rhetoric and Communication Design), I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to share where my UWaterloo Arts education led me.

The view from campus on philanthropy

Tomorrow is National Philanthropy Day® and in honour of it, I want to share with you what I recently learned about the culture of philanthropy here at UWaterloo.

Just two weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending the 2013 President’s Reception in the Bruce White Atrium in Math 3.  As a student volunteer, it was a rare opportunity to meet and mingle with members of the board of governors, senior management, donors, alumni and other students.

Co-op students offer robotics company a clear path to success

Unique, hands-on learning

At Clearpath Robotics, we’re not just known for creating the world’s best unmanned vehicles for research and development, we’re also known for creating unique learning opportunities for our employees, both in the office and beyond. It should come as no surprise, then, that we’re huge supporters of co-op education.

There and Back Again

My two greatest passions in life are music and computers.  The University of Waterloo was instrumental in providing me with the perfect place to explore both of them.

I came to the University of Waterloo because I wanted to learn how to build and program computers. I applied and was accepted into the Computer Engineering program. I can't imagine a better program; we learned it all, right down to the electrons!
