Established in 2019, the Toronto Alumni Chapter offers a unique opportunity for alumni programing and connecting with students. This chapter represents our largest concentration of alumni in a region. The group is looking forward to connecting with as many alumni as possible!

Leadership Advisor

Is a graduate of the School of Planning in the Faculty of Environment. She runs her own Digital Media company, Long Legs Media, in Toronto and is a strong advocate for University of Waterloo Alumni relations and supporting past and future alumni.

Is a project management consultant and program manager of international rail transit and construction infrastructure mega-projects. She is interested in helping alumni connect and build the reputation of the university.

Brant graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2021 with a BA in Liberal Arts Studies (Philosophy). Brant is a retired engineering support and configuration management professional in the aerospace industry. He is a proud alumnus and achieved his BA degree part time while working full time. Brant is looking forward to connecting with and reaching out to UWaterloo alumni, existing students and personnel.

Paul is currently Senior Writer in Global Marketing at Sun Life Financial.  He has worked in Marketing, Communications, and Media and Public Relations in the financial services industry for 17 years.  Paul was also a writer, producer, and reporter in TV news for 18 years. He gained valuable knowledge and experience through the Co-op Honours English program at UW and wants to help UW alumni connect.

Is the Co-Chair for the Waterloo Region Alumni Chapter. David is currently a faculty member in the School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Waterloo and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. He was born and raised in Kitchener, and is excited to find new ways to connect with other alumni in the vibrant Waterloo Region community.

Laura Flatt runs the community program at Vidyard, building and implementing the company’s social impact programming. She is one of the founding organizers behind Plugin, a local non-profit that connects the tech community to charitable organizations.

Katie is the Business Manager for Plasticity Labs. She has spent her career as an office administrator for a variety of non-profit and corporate organizations. She is passionate about the local community, and is excited to help develop chapter events that appeal to the wide interests of the area alumni.

As a former international student, Chérisse was active in several volunteer roles around campus including the Association of Caribbean Students and the International Canadian Student Network. Post-graduation, she continued to be of service as a member of UW staff in several student facing roles like Graduate and Administrative Coordinator in Applied Math, and International Student Experience Coordinator in the Student Success Office. She is currently an International Employment Specialist in Co-operative Education at the University of Waterloo and continues to support students in her day to day work.  She is a proud Waterloo grad and is thrilled to be a part of creating a thriving waterloo alumni community

Navya is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sustainability Management (Water), Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo. She has worked on a variety of topics related to climate adaptation and sustainable development goals and is actively engaged with outreach activities related to sustainability and community building across campus. Navya loves to connect with others and use her international student identity to help the Waterloo Regional Chapter strengthen its sense of community.

Rubin Kataki is a South Asian, Canadian-American, 2SLGBTQ+ fundraising professional and leader who specializes in philanthropic giving, development, advancement, and alumni relations, raising millions for charitable and non-profit organizations across North America and globally. Rubin is a proud University of Waterloo alumnus working for his beloved university-college, United College (formerly St. Paul’s) overseeing the development, advancement, and alumni relations portfolios. Rubin loves connecting and celebrating with the many inspiring, talented, and diverse UWaterloo and United alumni who together, contribute to the rich identity of the Waterloo region - welcome all to the Waterloo Region Alumni Chapter!

Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, she ventured from a quaint town to a bustling city for her education. Armed with a degree from the University of Waterloo's Arts & Business program, with a focus on Speech Communications, she dove into various roles spanning government, tech, and now HR at an NGO.  Now residing in Ottawa, she's determined to cultivate community spirit and forge unforgettable experiences in the nation's capital. With a knack for fostering connections, she's thrilled to unite Ottawans—both seasoned locals and newcomers alike— in creating enduring memories.

Having experienced half of her degree virtually, she is eager to build alumni connections in Ottawa. A 4-time engineering orientation week leader, Lisa knows the value of forming a strong community of peers.

After graduating from the University of Waterloo School of Urban and Regional Planning, Alec spent 2 years as a Project Supervisor for major pipeline projects in Alberta and Ontario. In 1985 he joined Transport Canada in Ottawa with varying positions in airport planning, safety, security, and emergency planning, and  completed his career as Senior Director Environmental Management for the department. During his career, Alec worked domestically and internationally, and mentored many employees in management excellence, leadership and career development. As a consultant, he has worked in airport operations and environment with the International Civil Aviation Organization. Alec and Ruth are the proud parents of Jillian and Claire, following their dreams and achievements in life.

After graduating from Geography in 2010, Katie moved to Ottawa to find work and now working as a Proposal Lead for a defence & aerospace company, having worked in business development support roles in the mining and aviation sectors previously. Shan recently graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting and Financial Management as well as a Masters in Accounting. He moved to Calgary many years ago, but went to Ontario for University. Currently, he is working with a big 4 accounting firm in Calgary. He runs a small social change organization called "First Letter International” that helps empower women in rural areas around the globe by sponsoring their education. He also hosts a podcast where he raises his voice for women's rights. In his spare time, he like to go hiking, cycling or any other sports where he can socialize and make friends! Shan is a big fan of pizza and ice cream, so if you know of any great places or just want to say hi, please feel free to connect with him!

After living in several cities in Canada and abroad, she is eager to leverage her multi-local identity to encourage the Waterloo community in Calgary to bolster a sense of belonging.

David is a software developer who loves the challenge of building robust and impactful technology. He enjoys being active, especially spending time cycling and hiking in the mountains around Calgary. He is excited to engage with and build up the UWaterloo community in Calgary.

At Waterloo, Hannah really enjoyed being involved as a Frosh week orientation leader, Mascot, and residence Don. She was involved in various cultural and marketing clubs, and especially enjoyed contacting local companies to collaborate for fundraising and sponsorship opportunities.

Her interests are event coordination, going to musicals and admiring pretty sunsets. She can sing and have been a national anthem singer at various events. Recently, Hannah moved from New York, is working as a Project Manager with an IT firm and is excited to connect with other alumni!

Is originally from Toronto, but heard the mountains calling from Vancouver. He was perviously a Global Ambassador for alumni in Australia, specifically Melbourne and Sydney. Jon is a software sales and business development professional experienced in EdTech and MarTech.

Outside of work, Jon can be found at Kitsilano Beach, hiking or photographing the mountains. He is always open to meet newcomers and alum for a walk or an espresso!

Sherry is a product designer at Fortinet who enjoys hiking in her spare time. Additionally, she demonstrates a strong commitment to giving back to her university through volunteering, which is a wonderful way to support future generations of students and maintain strong connections within the academic community.

Jimit studied Computer Science from Waterloo and graduated in 2021. He is currently working remotely as a Software Engineer from the beautiful city of Vancouver where he likes to run, hike, and bike. He is deeply passionate about Hip Hop culture and could be found at different dance studios learning cool choreographies. On weekends, he also likes to climb at bouldering gyms.

Hello fellow Waterloo Alumni!

I moved to North Bay, Ontario in April 2020 when I accepted a Community Affairs position with TC Energy (formerly TransCanada Pipelines Ltd). Before that –€“ I earned a BA ('03) and MA ('05) in Political Science at uWaterloo and for about 15 years worked in government and the private sector around the issues of Indigenous economic reconciliation, mining, and energy. My professional background is in Public Affairs which ties in nicely with my passion to help others achieve their true potential. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and volunteering.

As a Global Ambassador, I hope to get to know as many alumni in Northern Ontario and to connect them to one another. For my work, I do have the ability and privilege to travel to many parts of the north and I look forward to meeting many of you face to face.
