On February 20 and 21, approximately 85 people attended the 42nd annual MCEC School for Ministers at Conrad Grebel University College (Waterloo, ON). United Church minister, intercultural trainer, author, and theologian Rev. Dr. Anthony Bailey delivered the keynote presentations on the topic of “The Audacious Preacher”. Weaving together stories from his church in Ottawa, social and political readings of scripture, and theological reflections on racism, Bailey challenged participants to think about preaching as a task requiring accountability and “one-anothering” in the context of community.

Both Wednesday and Thursdays mornings started with worship on the themes of “Audacious Worship” and “The Table of Reconciliation” respectively. The Thursday worship included a communion service.

Afternoon workshops on both days expanded the preaching theme into areas such as gender, visual art, humour, and funerals. On the Wednesday afternoon, participants enjoyed a Pastors’ Appreciation Hour with special food, drink, and socializing.
