Let’s Talk About Mental Health at the Intersections
In collaboration with the President’s Anti-Racism Taskforce (PART), we will be hosting a panel discussion on intersectionality (the convergence of two or more identities within a person) and its effects on health and wellbeing. The panel will discuss how these identities (also called social determinants of health) intersect and manifest themselves in the form of inequities; the effects of these intersecting identities and inequities on health, mental health, and wellbeing; protective strategies that are often employed to survive; and recommendations on how the University ought to support individuals with intersecting identities and promote equity.

Moderator: Professor Bessma Momani

Panelists:

  1. Dinuka Gunaratne (Manager, Career Education Strategy and Communications, University of Waterloo)
  2. Iqra Mohammad (Student, Department of Knowledge Integration, University of Waterloo)
  3. Dr. Yewande Olamide (Physician, Medical Psychotherapist)
  4. Farshid Sadatsharifi, PhD (Operations Manager, Acessibrand)
