UWaterloo announces membership of The President’s Anti-Racism Taskforce

Widespread community feedback collected between August and October have led to the finalization of several thematic areas for action. These areas have become the foundation of The President’s Anti-Racism Taskforce (PART), and the establishment of five PART working groups, that will make recommendations to address systemic racism on campus.

Engagement with community members have also highlighted areas where immediate action can begin and led to the establishment of four PART implementation teams to take immediate steps in the areas of BIPOC Related Programming; Campus Representation; Race, Culture & Ethnicity Awareness; and Race-Based Data Strategies.

Details of the Taskforce, Working Groups and Implementation Teams are now available here. We invite the entire campus community to review and provide feedback on our ongoing anti-racism work

First official meeting of our Community Collaborative

On September 29, we held the first official meeting of our newly formed PART Community Collaborative. The Community Collaborative is a group of more than 40 BIPOC individuals who have been brought together to create a forum for broad consultation on the initiation and development of PART. This community continues to grow and welcomes additional voices.

We have updated our website to list the six thematic areas being considered for PART action and our next steps. These thematic areas are emerging from ongoing discussions with our Community Collaborative members. Everyone on campus is encouraged to review and provide feedback on these six themes and on our anti-racism work ongoing.

Update on our anti-racism work

Message for employees

Preparations for the new academic term and the changes from the ongoing public health crisis have been front of mind for all of us in recent weeks. Even with these pressures, our work to address systemic, anti-Black, anti-Indigenous and other forms of racism is still very much top of mind and is ongoing.

Today, we have launched a webpage to help you stay up-to-date on the commitments we’ve made to address systemic racism as well as the evolution and progress of our work.
