Back pain killing your sex life? Groundbreaking study reveals best positions to save your spine
Contrary to popular belief, spooning is not always the best sex position for those with a bad back, according to new research from the University of Waterloo.
For the first time ever, scientists have successfully documented the way the spine moves during sex and discovered exactly why certain positions are better than others when it comes to avoiding back pain.
“Any family doctor will tell you that couples often ask them how to manage their back pain during and after sex. Many couples will remain celibate because one night of love-making can lead to months of back agony,” said Professor Stuart McGill, of Waterloo’s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. “Until now, doctors have never had any hard science to base their recommendations upon.”

KW's Miss Oktoberfest is a Waterloo AHS student
A big AHS congratulations goes out to our very own Lindsay Kalbfleisch (Therapeutic Recreation) as she was crowned Miss Oktoberfest 2014 last week.
We wish Lindsay all the best as she embarks on her year-long endeavour representing the Kitchener-Waterloo community as Miss Oktoberfest.

AHS Upcoming Events
AHSUM's First General Meeting of Fall 2014 Term
Thursday, October 2nd at 7:00 pm | BMH 1035 (BMH Lounge)
AHSUM had their first general meeting on October 2nd. Discussions on services, clothing, and events brought up several suggestions for AHSUM to serve its constituents this Fall, and a Health Promotions executive representative was added to the constitution through a unanimous referendum.
Minutes from the first general meeting will be posted soon on the AHSUM Meeting Minutes.
Improving Health and Well-being through Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship

A panel discussion of youth-led startups from the University of Waterloo moderated by AHS alumnus Rohit Ramchandani (BSc '04, Health Studies), Founder and principal at Antara Global Health Advisors.

FREE peer-led study groups that are designed for everyone in the class, regardless of comfort with the course material. SLGs give you the opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of course content, test knowledge prior to tests and exams, and leave with something tangible to review later. Applied Health Sciences Endowment Fund Proposal Submission Deadline - October 31st, 2014
The Applied Health Sciences Endowment Fund (AHSEF) is currently looking for students to submit funding proposals. AHSEF currently provides funding for improvements to learning facilities, equipment for undergraduate labs, improvements to computing services, and support of student societies and clubs within AHS.
