Accommodations for illness or extenuating circumstances

As a student, you may encounter situations such as significant illnesses, ongoing medical conditions, or other circumstances that prevent you from meeting academic obligations. Academic integrity

To create and promote a culture of academic integrity, the behaviour of all members of the University of Waterloo is based on honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility.

All members of the uWaterloo community are expected to hold to the highest standard of academic integrity in their studies, teaching, and research.

The Office of Academic Integrity’s website contains detailed information on the University's policy for students and faculty. This site explains why academic integrity (AI) is important and how students can avoid academic misconduct. It also identifies resources available on campus to help achieve academic integrity in and out of the classroom.

Petition for Exception to Academic Regulations

Policy 70 (Student Petitions and Grievances) indicates that a petition “is a request by a student seeking exception to, or relief from, normal faculty or University rules and regulations”. Examples of petitions include adding or dropping a course after the deadline, changing course load enrolment and reconsideration of an end of term academic decision.

Student support

The university offers various student support services across campus to assist students in a variety of areas.

Academic Advisors Academic advisors in your home department/school are available to assist with course planning and a variety of other needs
Student Mentorship Program

weCONNECTu is a mentoring program offered for students by students. Our upper-year mentors offer a variety of programs to assist first-year students in Health including social events, workshops, and on-going communication. Students can also be matched with an upper-year mentor for one-on-one support and as a contact for questions.

Counselling Services Counselling Services in Needles Hall offers free confidential counseling (group and individual) and consultation for students, as well as a whole series of Coping Seminars and Workshops, including anxiety management, healthy boundaries in relationships, nutrition management, mindfulness meditation and stress management.
Student Success Office

The University of Waterloo's Student Success Office offers various initiatives and programs to promote continued student success and an improved overall student experience. Check out their Academic Development and their Leadership Develoment initiatives.

You can find them on the second floor of South Campus Hall, and drop by or contact the Student Success Office with any comments or questions.

Health Services Health Services provides services including the student medical clinic, occupational health, mental health, nutrition services, and health education including the Personal Best Program, which assists students with promoting and maintaining overall health and wellness.
Glow Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity Run entirely by dedicated student volunteers, Glow promotes a healthy attitude towards all sexual orientations and gender identities on the UWaterloo campus by providing a wide variety of peer support, social events, advocacy work, and resources.
Office of Indigenous Relations The Office of Indigenous Relations works collaboratively on and off-campus to advance the goals of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, creating a long-term vision for the University, grounded in decolonization. 
Academics in Residence The living learning program offers tutoring in residence for a variety of courses on a weekly basis.
AccessAbility Services AccessAbility Services promotes access to programs, services, and facilities for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors with permanent or temporary disabilities. The office provides information to students, academic accommodations, and various support services.
Career Services

The Centre for Career Development offers services including various resources, workshops, events and individual appointments for students. Appointments can be made for the following: résumé and cover letter critique, career exploration and decision making including job search advice, mock interviews for jobs and professional school, and assistance with grad/professional school process and review.

MATES

MATES is an one-on-one peer support program offered by the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA). It is currently offered online via Microsoft Teams to undergraduate students. To set up an appointment, please contact mates@wusa.ca
