2014 Hagey Lecture - Fair Society, Healthy Lives

Monday, November 3, 2014 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

Sir Michael Marmot has led research groups on health inequalities for over 35 years, and is widely seen as a leader in the study of the social determinants of health.

Indicators of overall population health and the distribution of health tell us much about how well a society is doing. The WHO Commission on Social Determinants of Health advocated for action on the wider social, economic, political, and cultural determinants of health in order to improve population health and reduce health inequalities. Sir Michael will discuss learning from the Strategic Review of Health Inequalities in England (Marmot Review) and the recently published Review of Social Determinants and the Health Divide in the European Region and how it can be applied in different contexts nationally and locally to build fairer and healthier societies.
