Tuesday, June 10, 2014 — 10:00 AM EDT

Colonel Chris Hadfield speaks to audience at University of Waterloo.

Convocation is a special time for our graduates to celebrate their achievements with family and friends.

AHS graduands are invited to a special celebratory breakfast reception at 8:30 a.m. in B.C. Matthews Hall, with convocation ceremonies beginning in the Physical Activities Complex (PAC) at 10 a.m.

Graduands should pick up their graduation gown and lineup/name card before the pre-convocation breakfast. Details are available on the convocation website.

Applied Health Sciences welcomes special guest Colonel Chris Hadfield to campus. The now retired astronaut, who joins the University as an adjunct professor in the fall, will address convocation and receive an honorary doctor of science from the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences

Hadfield, who conducted post-graduate research at Waterloo before becoming a leader in space exploration, gained international attention during his 2013 trip on the International Space Station (ISS). During that mission, Hadfield became the first Canadian astronaut to command the ISS and used social media to share breathtaking photos of the planet from space and to communicate with a broad audience on Earth.

Other honours to be presented include the Applied Health Sciences Alumni Achievement Award and Young Alumni Award.
