Dr. John Garcia leads public health tobacco project in Nunavut News story

Waterloo professor John Garcia is collaborating with the Government of Nunavut and Inuit communities on a tobacco control strategy for the territory. He states that “The Government of Nunavut identified a whole series of priorities” in public health and tobacco control is high on the list. Approximately two thirds of Nunavut’s population smokes on a regular basis and lung cancer rates in Inuit Canada are among the highest in the world.

Allergy experts share findings on food allergy prevalence and perceptions

Anaphylaxis is a serious adverse side effect and life threatening condition. Research is going into developing a better understanding to reduce the risks associated with allergic reactions. Waterloo’s Dean of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, Susan Elliott, and other leading experts share their findings of the SCAALAR study on prevalence and perceptions of food serious food allergies in Canada.
