Stabilizability of piezoelectric material
Piezoelectric material exhibit an electromechanical coupling that is exploited for applications. The electromechanical coupling is characterized by an electrical displacement as the result of mechanical stress and a mechanical strain that is the result of an applied electrical field. The material can be used as a strip or patch of piezoelectric material known as piezoelectric beams and plates, respectively. The partial differential equations that describe the behavior can be made under various assumptions for the mechanical part of the beam and the electric-field. The resulting models have their own stabilizability properties. The aim of this research project is to obtain a clear picture of the underlying mechanisms of these assumptions in relation to stabilizability, control, and system performance of piezoelectric material. Furthermore we investigate the appropriateness of the approximation methods for stabilizability and control purposes, and their accuracy. In this talk the need for research of stabilizability of piezoelectric material is motivated. We comment on preceding research that we wish to extend and outline the goals of this work.
