Title

Evolutionary Dynamics of Cancers

Abstract

As a genetic and epigenetic disease, cancer can be thought of as an evolutionary process which disrupts the regular mechanisms of cells. The evolutionary dynamics of cancers, by applying deterministic and stochastic models, plays an important role leading to a better understanding of cancer initiation and progression dynamics during carcinogenesis and clonal expansion. Experimental observations, on the other hand, could confirm the analytical results as well as their corresponding in-situ simulations. Moreover, statistical data from cancerous samples among with mathematical models and bioinformatics would provide more insight into the evolution of cancer. Phylogenetics is one of the approaches which is used to construct a hierarchical tree of life based on genetic information. In this pre-comprehensive seminar, some background of evolutionary dynamics and phylogenetics will be presented which are the main tools used in my current research.
