Jesse Reiser received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Cooper Union in New York and completed his Masters of Architecture at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a fellow of the American Academy in Rome in 1985 and he worked for the offices of John Hejduk and Aldo Rossi prior to forming Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture PC with partner, Nanako Umemoto. RUR is now an internationally recognized multidisciplinary architectural design firm that has built projects at a wide range of scales: from furniture design, to residential and commercial structures, up to the scale of landscape, urban design, and infrastructure. The firm has recently won two major international competitions: the Taipei Pop Music Center and the Kaohsiung Port Terminal, both currently under construction. O-14, a 22-story exoskeletal office tower, was completed in 2011 in Dubai and has received numerous international honors. A comprehensive monograph of the project, O-14: Projection and Reception, was published by AA Publications in 2012.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Indigenous Initiatives Office.
