SUMMARY:Arriscraft Canada Brick Speaker Series: 11x17
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Architects do not make buildings\, and they certainly do not ma
ke\nmaterials\; they specify. The “out of stock” sign\, often consider
ed\nas a hiccup in procurement\, is in fact a threshold where the ethical\
nreach of architecture becomes visible\, yet remains perpetually at risk\n
of collapse. What if architecture is never fully available? What\nhappens w
hen specifying itself no longer leads directly to the\nproduction of a bui
 lding? Drawing on 11 x 17’s recent projects\, this\nlecture explores a m
aterial politics of “unavailability” and\nspeculates on new modes of a
rchitectural practice that consider how\nform\, material\, and labor entan
gle to produce an architecture of\nresourcefulness.
