SUMMARY:From Silos to Synergy
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:How cities develop and function is the endeavor of engineers an
d\nplanners\, among others\, however\, students and faculty in these two\n
disciplines often have limited opportunity to work and study\ncollaborativ
ely. At the University of Waterloo\, we are fortunate to\nhave a Planner-
 in-Residence and an Engineer-in-Residence who bring\nindustry perspectives
to curricular activities in the School of\nPlanning and in Civil and Envi
ronmental Engineering\, respectively.\nBoth experts believe in the advanta
ges of collaboration and\ninterdisciplinary for the benefit of our cities
and urban prosperity.\nThis session is a first step toward bridging the tw
o disciplines\nfurther\, highlight examples of the shortfalls of working i
n\ndisciplinary silos and the benefits of synergy among planners and\nengi
 neers.
