In conjunction with Waterloo Architecture’s 50th Anniversary lecture series and exhibition, several student initiatives will be hosting a lunchtime conversation series at the Design at Riverside gallery. Following the theme of Questioning the Canon, this conversation series invites alumni and guests to address the overarching question: In a world of unprecedented possibilities and unforeseen brutalities what can architectural education do?
On March 12, Lori Campbell, director of the Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre, will be in conversation with Treaty Lands, Global Stories on practice in education. The event will be held at Design at Riverside gallery beginning at 12:30pm. Coffee and snacks will be available.
Sarah Gunawan
Sarah Gunawan holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Waterloo where she has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer and Studio Instructor. She is currently the Reyner Banham Fellow at the University of Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning where her research and teaching reposition architecture as an environmental prosthetic for aging bodies. Her work is published in Lunch, The Expanded Environment, and The Site Magazine. She has presented at conferences in Toronto, Cambridge, and Florence on issues ranging from the integration of synanthropic animals in suburban communities to the dual meaning of representation as action and decision. Previously, she has worked for architectural practices in Canada, the U.S., and Europe including Lateral Office (Toronto), KVA Matx (Boston), and Taktyk Landscape Urbanism (Brussels).
