Waterloo Architecture's 50th anniversary image

Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us for the opening of an exhibition that marks the 50th anniversary of Waterloo Architecture.

Entitled Questioning the Canon, the exhibition gathers the work of innovative alumni, ground-breaking architectural practitioners and academics as well as projects by current students and recent graduates. Together, they have been invited to address one overarching question: In a world of unprecedented possibilities and unforeseen brutalities, what can architectural education do?

The exhibition is structured around the school’s six areas of architectural pedagogy — Design Studio, Cultural History + Theory, Environment + Technology, Visual + Digital Media, Landscape + Urbanism, and Practice in Education. It presents the work of numerous participants -- Piper Bernbaum, Neeraj Bhatia, Gloria Cabral, Allan Cain, Teresa Galí-Izard, Tammy Gaber, Sarah Gunawan, Siamak Hariri, Katherine Holbrook- Smith, Safira Lakhani, Aidan Mitchelmore, Kiel Moe, Nada Nafeh, Marc Simmons, Meredith TenHoor, Theodora Vardouli, Charles Walker, and Philip Yuan – along with contributions by Adrian Blackwell, Samiha Meem, and Treaty Lands, Global Stories.

We would also like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to two of the forthcoming conversations that will take place in the Laurence Cummings Lecture Theatre at the Waterloo School of Architecture:

February 8th, 6:30pm: Siamak Hariri and Philip Yuan on Design Studio
March 1st, 6:30pm: Charles Walker and Theodora Vardouli on Visual + Digital Media

On both these evenings, Riverside gallery will be open prior to the lectures, from 5:30-6:30pm.

We look forward to seeing you at the School! Please come and join us in questioning how architectural education can address our turbulent world with cultural and technical knowledge equal to the challenge it faces.
