Jonathan Enns is a hybrid designer, strategist, inventor and entrepreneur. With design consulting experience in the technology and IOT industries, and a background in Architecture and interdisciplinary practice, his work focuses on the relationship between high technology environments and human wellbeing.
Jonathan runs the Humanics Lab, a think tank dedicated to human centred approaches to design research, experiential prototyping, and human impact quantification methods in the AEC industry. The Humanics Lab looks for innovation opportunities that improve wellness and happiness for people.
Jonathan’s experience bridges academia and practice. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo as Assistant Professor, Jonathan was a project lead at Continuum Innovation in Boston where he worked with cross disciplinary teams on consulting projects and spatial experience prototyping (sx) for top global brands in the technology, IOT, and connected home industries.
From 2012 to 2017 Jonathan was core faculty at the University of Toronto’s school of Architecture where he ran graduate design studios at the intersection of architecture, product, and interaction design, with a focus on intuitive interfaces and human centered participatory design processes.
Prior to this, Jonathan was a design consultant at Front Inc. in NYC, where he worked with engineers, architects, and strategists on the detail and mechanical design of facades for Atelier Jean Nouvel, Buro OS and Bjarke Ingles group.
Jonathan is a graduate of the University of Waterloo's School of Architecture ('07), and Princeton University's M.Arch program ('10) where he was a recipient of the School’s 2010 design prize, and the Henry Adams AIA medal. In 2011, he won an Arciprix International award for his design work on computational design systems, and in 2014, a Holcim International Award for Sustainable Construction for his research into the carbon benefits of massive timber construction.
He runs an independent spatial experience design (SX) company called Circular.
Jonathan is excited about the future.
