SUMMARY:PhD Seminar: Modelling the Continuum of Emotions in Neural Dialogue
 \nSystems
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:NABIHA ASGHAR\, PHD CANDIDATE\n_David R. Cheriton School of Com
puter Science_\n\nMost of the existing neural conversational models proces
 s natural\nlanguage primarily on a lexico-syntactic level\, thereby ignori
ng one\nof the most crucial components of human-to-human dialogue: its\naf
fective content. We take a step in this direction by proposing three\nnove
l ways to incorporate affective/emotional aspects into long short\nterm me
mory (LSTM) encoder-decoder neural conversation models: (1)\naffective wor
 d embeddings\, which are cognitively engineered\, (2)\naffect-based object
ive functions that augment the standard\ncross-entropy loss\, and (3) affe
 ctively diverse beam search for\ndecoding.
