SUMMARY:AI Seminar: Towards Fair and Accurate Peer Review
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:IVAN STELMAKH\, PHD CANDIDATE\n_Machine Learning Department\, S
chool of Computer Science_\nCarnegie Mellon University\n\nPeer review is t
he backbone of scholarly research and fairness of this\nprocess is crucial
for the successful development of academia. In this\ntalk\, we will discu
ss our two recent works on fairness of peer review.\nIn the first part of
the talk\, we will focus on the automated\nassignment of papers to reviewe
rs in the conference setup. We will\nshow that the assignment procedure cu
rrently employed by NeurIPS and\nICML does not guarantee fairness and may
discriminate against some\nsubmissions. In contrast\, we will present the
assignment algorithm\nthat simultaneously ensures fairness and accuracy of
  the resulting\nallocation.
