Install and Use Cisco Secure Client VPN

Windows

  1. Log into the UW VPN website, (if that link doesn’t work, try this one) login with your WatIAM user ID credentials, and enter your 2FA method in the Second Password field:

    • Duo Mobile Push - type in “push”

    • Duo hardware token or Duo app - type in your 6-digit code

    • For Duo Bypass code - type in your bypass code

    • For Yubikey - type in the code generated by touching the Yubikey button

       

  2. Click the installation for your operating system, in this case, Download for Windows, and open the file when it has finished downloading.

  3. Cisco Secure Client Setup pop up will appear.

    1. Click Next.

    2. Click I agree to the terms in the License Agreement.

    3. Click Next.

    4. Click Install.

  4. Once installation is complete, click Finish.

  1. Click the Start button and search for Cisco Secure Client

     

  2. Specify the VPN server: cn-vpn.uwaterloo.ca

  3. Click Connect.

  4. In the Group drop-down, select UW-General-Campus.

  5. Enter your WatIAM user ID credentials (e.g., lgchase) and your 2FA method in the Second Password field:

    • Duo Mobile Push - type in “push”

    • Duo hardware token or Duo app - type in your 6-digit code

    • For Duo Bypass code - type in your bypass code

    • For Yubikey - type in the code generated by touching the Yubikey button

  6. Click OK.

  7. You should now be connected, you can double-check that you are by:

    1. Click the up arrow in your task bars right side to show hidden icons.

    2. Hover over the Cisco Secure Client taskbar icon to see if you are connected.

Mac

  1. Go to the UW VPN website, login with your WatIAM user ID credentials and enter your 2FA method in the Second Password field:

    • Duo Mobile Push - type in “push”

    • Duo hardware token or Duo app - type in your 6-digit code

    • For Duo Bypass code - type in your bypass code

    • For Yubikey - type in the code generated by touching the Yubikey button

       

  2. Click the installation for your operating system, in this case, Download for MacOS.

  3. Double-click the package downloaded to run the installer.

  4. Cisco Secure Client window will pop up to install the package and will require you to accept the Cisco software license.

  5. Click Finish.

  1. Open Cisco Secure Client.

  2. Specify the VPN server: cn-vpn.uwaterloo.ca

  3. Click Connect.

     

  4. In the Group drop-down, select UW-General-Campus.

  5. Enter your WatIAM user ID credentials (e.g., lgchase) and your 2FA method in the Second Password field:

    • Duo Mobile Push - type in “push”

    • Duo hardware token or Duo app - type in your 6-digit code

    • For Duo Bypass code - type in your bypass code

    • For Yubikey - type in the code generated by touching the Yubikey button

       

  6. Click OK.

  7. When the client is active, the VPN connection can be controlled from the Menu Bar icon:
