[Isthd] UWaterloo Scholar upgrade – November 29

What is happening?

UWaterloo Scholar  is being upgraded to version 1.3.

Why is this happening?

This is the release of UWaterloo Scholar version 1.3 and adds new features and functionality and fixes some known issues. Release notes are available at UWaterloo Scholar 1.3 release.

When is this happening?

Wednesday, November 29 from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.

[Faccus] Certificate change for session-based VDI environment – October 10

What is happening?

A new GlobalSign OrgSSL certification will be applied to session-based VDI environment (Quest, HR-PTools, OnBase, SPSS and SAS etc.)

When is this happening?

Due to scheduling conflicts with student assignments, the planned certification application has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.

What is the impact?

WCMS People search results unavailable – May 16

What is happening?  As a result of a recent upgrade of the Google Search Appliance (GSA) the search function on WCMS sites no longer returns people search results. IST is aware of this and are working to re-implement the capability to search for people.

When is this happening? Began on Tuesday, May 16 and is ongoing.

Ransomware threat resulting from leaked NSA hacking tools -May 15

What is happening? In mid-April 2017, hacking tools alleged to have been developed by the NSA were released to the public.  These tools exploit a flaw in all versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system.  Microsoft had released updates in March 2017 to correct the flaw in supported versions of Windows.  On Friday, May 12, a ransomware worm named “WannaCry” attacked hundreds of thousands of computers in approximately 150 countries by exploiting this vulnerability.  While the initial malware outbreak was stopped by a security researcher, we expect more attacks given the

SMBv1 disabled on Windows file servers

The old, out of date SMBv1 protocol was disabled on ACO-managed file servers on April 15.
