A cadenza is known to musicians as a technically brilliant, sometimes improvised solo passage toward the close of a concerto. For us, it is a statement that elegantly reflects the culmination of this chapter of our academic careers as artists. In the same way that a cadenza demonstrates the abilities of a musician, our final exhibition showcases both our collective and individual talents. The phrase sometimes improvised implies not only a sense of control and intentionality, but also of creative liberty. This distinguishing feature of a cadenza also reflects our experience, as it speaks to the often unpredictable nature of the artistic process. However, perhaps the trait that most closely relates our exhibition to the convention of the cadenza is the way in which they both mark a conclusion; a grand finale to an equally great episode.
The fourth year students would like to acknowledge the generous support and donations from: The University of Waterloo, Waterloo Arts Endowment Fund, University of Waterloo Fine Arts, University of Waterloo Art Gallery (UWAG), and the Indulge Natural and Organic Kitchen.
Please join us in this celebration of emerging artistic talent.
The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Indigenous Initiatives Office.
