Friday, November 6, 2015 — 11:00 AM EST

The Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies invites all to join our SPAN 390, Introduction to Business Spanish Translation, for a presentation by  Andrés Arteaga “Preparing for a post-conflict Colombia: Writing Trauma and the Challenges of Translating it”.

Dr. Andrés Arteaga is Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics, Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Dr. Arteaga will talk about the steps and challenges of producing and translating post-trauma narrative. The presentation will address, on the one hand, the evolution of the authors' creative process, and the psychological elements that were at stake for them when they wrote about their traumatic experiences. On the other hand, the difficult task of translators working on trauma narratives will be discussed, especially given the challenges encountered with sensitive content and colloquial language.

The presentation will be in English.
